Some Facts and Trivia about Facebook.

Facebook now is the largest and the strongest social networking site now and it has over 350 million users. Can you imagine that? If you would consider Facebook as a country it would be the fifth most populated country in the whole world. Facebook really gave a great impact on the generation today, for me, it is somehow has good and bad effects to the users. But, that is another story; we are talking about the facts about facebook. So, another fact that I think you’d be interested to hear is that facebook is being blocked in some countries. Yes! It is true, Facebook is being blocked in Syria, China, Vietnam, and Iran. The countries are blocking Facebook from entering the them, I don’t know how they are doing it, but that was interesting. I have read that Syria is concerned about the teachings and the other negative posts or applications in Facebook that it will infect the mind of the people of Syria. I personally think that as bullshit. Why are they blocking Facebook from the country, to think that the past social networking sites have invaded them in the past? That is very weird for me. Syria, China, Vietnam, and Iran are not the only country who protects its countrymen. It is also up to the people if they will be affected by the bad things they see in Facebook or not, as if they are not being invaded by bad teachings in other ways.

Another fact that I want to share with you is the competitors of Facebook. Do you know who got threaten by Facebook? It is not multiply, not Friendster, not even Twitter, it is Google and Yahoo. It is not even in their line of competitors, well maybe in some point, but it is interesting that the two got threaten by Facebook. To think, that they are the biggest search engine in the world and they are the pioneers in that line of sites. I don’t really know if they are threatened or they just want to buy Facebook to enhance their profit. But, I think they are threatened that Facebook might establish a application that has a search engine in that way, Yahoo and Google will loose profit. Well, in fact they are loosing profit because the advertisements that supposed to be theirs are going to Facebook. Facebook has become the most populated site in the internet world today. Yahoo, offered to buy out Facebook with 1 billion dollars, and Google is offering 2 billion dollars but Facebook declined. Facebook truly proved to the world that a simple invention that is not even serious can provide mass profit in just a short span of time.

Well, do you know who Facebook’s owner/creator was? Mark Zuckerberg, he is the genius who created the billion dollar site. He is only twenty-five years of age, can you believe that? Wow, many young entrepreneurs look up to him this days, can you imagine some college student became an instant billionaire in just a matter of 3 years. How fast is that? Forbes dubbed him as the world’s youngest billionaire. He’s worth is about 1.5 billion. Wow!  That is really a lot of money. I personally idolize him because he got that money with what? Not even spending over a thousand dollars and look how much profit he earned? Mark Zuckerberg is truly a very lucky man, and I think his parents are really proud of him. Facebook is still a growing company now and its worth is becoming more and more expensive.

Another fact about Facebook is the real inventor of it. Some Harvard students who I think was group mates or friends of Mark Zuckerberg claims that they are the inventors of Facebook. Twins Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss say that they are the real inventors of Facebook and they only hired Zuckerberg to do the programming. They said that Zuckerberg stole their idea and claimed that it is his. Others, such as fellow student, Aaron Greenspan, also claim they invented Facebook. For me, they are just some students who are part of the project that in the first place did not think that the project will hit the high ranks and earn billions. I think Zuckerberg just forgot to give them some money when Facebook hit the ranks so they are now trying to claim the site from him. All of them I think are frauds. They are only envy of Zuckerberg’s big success. Well, even if what they are saying is true, Facebook will still remain to Zuckerberg who pursued it in to getting in high ranks. Because, first of all, they have all made it as a project only, and they did not sign any contract or anything that says they will turn it into a business. Maybe they are saying the truth that they made Facebook, but I think before, they did not care about it and disregarded the thought of it earning billions. Now that it earns money, they are running after it and claiming it as their own.

Friendster's Current Situation

Friendster is one of the most visited site with 61 million visitors a month and a 19 million page views. But today friendster's users are declining due to its performance problems. There were no improvements in their services. Their customers are asking for more but Friendster refused to give its users what they want like until it was to late.

Then came along Facebook a social networking site that gives its users what they want updating constantly. Making the way of communicating with friends more personal. Friendster was not competitive enough it's like it didn't think of facebook as a threat.  


But still Friendster still has it's loyal users that are mostly from Asia.

They changed Friendster almost similar to Facebook. Facebook has "News Feed" Friendster has "Activity Stream". They used Games as the sites main attraction. Most of friendsters users are young which matches what friendster offers.

Friendster is just retaining it's young asian users. I stopped using friendster since October 2008 (when i started using facebook) i just want a simple social networking site away from the "jologs" or "jejemons" >:)

We can't deny the fact that almost everybody here in the urban part of country has Facebook, from the President of the Philippines down to the new born babies of the country. So it wouldn't be a surprising fact if the Philippines is considered as one of the Top Growing Facebook countries in the world, and currently standing as 5th country who has biggest number of Facebook users in the world.

SocialBakers.com, the Facebook-Statistics Portal showed that there are 22,515 820 Facebook users in the Philippines. Which give us the position of the 5th country in world who has a large number of Facebook users.

Focusing in the Philippines, this social networking website really made a big impact to the country due to the large number of users. The population varies with different kind of users. Every single Facebook users has their own motive on using Faceboook. Some for individual interest, business, or making connections. But if we are gonna boil it down into one thing that makes them all the same, it's all about interaction.  

Facebook hands the opportunity to everybody to share their interest with one another who also has the same preference like they do. It has a lot of ways of sharing the ideas, thoughts, and beliefs of one user to its network. What's more is Facebook varies different traits, depending on how you want to connect with your group.  -Friendster user for 2006-2009, but not an active user anymore. Though she still has a Friendster account, but she haven't open it since last 2 years. 

 - A current Facebook user, she check it everyday, like her breakfast in the morning. She uses it as her means of communication and being updated about her colleagues and etc. 

 "I see social networking as a new way for groups, friends and colleagues to gather together. Like before we have to meet each other in a certain place to have a talk discussion with our friends, but now, after the invention of social networking websites, like facebook, which can be cover as the "meeting place", has made the changes for people to share, connect, and keep in contact with each other anywhere in the world just by the use of the internet."

- He is a Friendster user before but due to school and basketball he was not able to use it very well. It was 2006 to 2008, or 3 years ago from the last time he opened his Friendster account.

-In 2009 he has his Facebook book and he is checking it everyday. For him to communicate with his friends and family that's why he always open it everyday.

- He start using Friendster last 2006 and terminated his account after 5 months, he said he got bored that's why he deactivated his account. 

- Now he is using facebook for 3 years, and usually checking his account 5 times a week. He was able to make contact to his long lost friends, at the same time, he is entertained by the applications/games offered by facebook.

"I see social networking as a new hang out place for people who doesn't have time to meet each other in person. Because in Facebook you can communicate, play and so much more because there's a lot of application offered in the site. That helps people to be more close to each other."

-He is a Friendster user for 3 years, he used to check his profile everyday before but not as active like he used to, today. 

- He registered a facebook account last October 2009, and he check it everyday. He uses facebook to kill boredom whenever he doesn't have anything to do. At the same time, he is updated about his friends and also in contact with his relatives in abroad.

 "I think it's a good way to stay connected to people, show pictures and share experiences and feelings. The downside is people are getting too addicted to Social Networking sites especially Facebook. They just stay in front of the computer for hours. People procrastinate more because of this they'd rather play FarmVille,MafiaWars,Poker, etc. Students automatically log in to Facebook when they start their computers. It gets in the way with their studies and also some parents or even people who work."

" Social networking for me is also a good way of communication. There are lot of benefits that a user can do. And some of these are: It allow us to meet new friends and find the old ones.
